Concealed Wireless, Self-Supporting Water Tower, Plymouth, CA

116-foot-tall “water tower” supporting an 18-foot diameter, 29-foot high “water tank” houses 12 antennas that provide robust coverage to the surrounding region

In the rolling hills of Amador County, California, located on the grounds of a cement plant in Plymouth, this concealed wireless communications hub seamlessly blends utility, technology, and design. Just one of 4 concealed wireless water tanks we’ve completed with TRLink (a Terralink company) out of Carson City, NV, this project was assembled and in service on time and on budget.

 Strategy Born of Experience

When we take on projects like the DryTown water tower for AT&T, we draw on decades of collective experience fabricating concealed wireless projects. We look at the whole scope of the project, including the means and methodology of installation. Our shop drawings and installation drawings correlate shop markings to their position on the tower. Through a series of elevation views, plan views, sections, and zoomed-in details of connections we illustrate the steps needed to assemble all components of the tower.

“The value proposition in working with the Steelhead team is not just the quality of the structures they build, which are consistently superior; it’s in their attention to detail, the quality of their communication, and their responsiveness when workers and equipment are on the ground and the clock is running.”

 Casey Janssen, President, TRLink Communications

Our strategic approach to assembly is illustrated in the installation of the 29-foot tall, 18-foot diameter “water tank”, clad with 4,000 pounds of RFP panels. All RF related equipment, including OVPs, RRUs, control modules, antennas and related hardware were installed while the water tank section was on the ground, only then was the whole “tank” assembly lifted to the top of the tower and "plugged in”.

 Stewardship, Communication & Responsiveness

While our product is engineered steel, we view our core business as grounded in relationships. That’s one reason a large percentage of our business comes from repeat customers. At Steelhead, ownership, technical sophistication and accountability are driven by a singular purpose: to deliver value on your next project.

“Two projects come to mind when thinking about Steelhead’s commitment to stewardship and responsiveness. In the first instance, we took over a project from another company that went out of business, and the tower components were scattered on the ground with no installation drawings in sight. Steelhead delivered complete documentation the next day. In the second instance, we were on a fast-track project, and Steelhead’s Damon Johnson flew in and spent the night pouring over and notating installation drawings so we could hit the ground running the next day.”

 Casey Janssen, President, TRLink Communications
